How to Select LCD TV Size
- 1). Consider whether or not you'll be mounting your television. Though it can be nice to have a 60+ inch LCD TV in your house, a unit that big can be impractical if you want to mount your TV on the wall.
- 2). Measure the distance between where your TV will go and where people will be sitting. Generally speaking, something like a 37" LCD TV will be perfect if your couches and chairs are around eight feet from the spot your TV will eventually sit.
- 3). Look at your present entertainment cabinet. If you have a large entertainment center that already houses a CRT TV, make sure you take the exact measurements of the unit with you to the electronics store. You don't want to get a TV that is too big or too small for your existing entertainment center if you plan to continue using it.
- 4). Consider the resolution of your TV in relation to the distance the set will be from viewers. 1080p full-resolution LCD TVs will always cost more than the equivalent sized 720p models. However, if that 1080p TV is far away from viewers, the human eye will not be able to process the additional resolution and you will have wasted money. Generally speaking, a 37" 1080p LCD TV should sit no farther than six to eight feet away from viewers if you want to see the full resolution of the TV. If your TV will be further away from viewers, you will need a larger television to experience the full 1080p resolution.
