How to Care for Mexican Feather Grass
- 1). Provide soil that drains easily. Create a raised planting bed that will help with draining. To do this, place a wall of cement blocks, layering blocks to achieve your desired height, around where your planting bed will be. Place a 2-inch layer of gravel and sand over the planting bed area to allow for good drainage. Cover the gravel with 7 inches of soil and continue with planting.
- 2). Plant the grass in a pre-dug hole that is equal to the depth of the container the grass came in. Cover the bottom of the plant with surrounding soil.
- 3). Water lightly but frequently within the first growing season to help establish a strong root system.
- 4). Taper off watering as the plant matures.
- 5). Prune dead foliage from the grass and rake it away. Dispose of the pruned foliage to prevent the spread of disease and fungus.
- 6). Ensure that the Mexican feather grass plants are fully exposed to sunlight.
