    • 1). Connect the speakers to the back of the receiver using the color-coded cables and plugs attached to each speaker. The front left and right speakers should be placed on each side of the TV with the center speaker above or below the television. Match the red and black plugs on the end of the speaker cables to the jacks labeled for that speaker on the back of the Yamaha receiver. The rear speakers should be placed behind the main seating area. Connect the rear speakers to the jacks labeled on the receiver.

    • 2). Push in the plug on one end of the subwoofer cable into the Sub OUT jack on the Yamaha, then connect the plug on the other end to the jack on the powered subwoofer. The sub can be placed anywhere in the room where it is out of the way.

    • 3). Connect the video cable from the Video OUT jack on the Yamaha receiver to a Video IN jack on the back of the TV. Some TVs will have a single yellow jack for video input. Others have three component (RGB) video jacks for improved picture quality. Connect these jacks with the Red, Green and Blue cables on a set of component video cables, then plug in the other ends to the RGB OUT jacks on the Yamaha.

    • 4). Connect the white, red and yellow plugs on one end of a composite cable to the matching jacks on the back of the DVD player, then hook up the other ends to the DVD input jacks labeled on the back of the Yamaha receiver.

    • 5). Connect other AV equipment as desired to the jacks labeled for each component on the receiver's back panel. An iPod can be connected to the Yamaha using the audio port on the front panel of the receiver.
