How to Make Cheap Fire Pits

    • 1). Pick out a good place for a fire pit. The ground should be even and dry and preferably dirt or gravel-based.

    • 2). Arrange cinder blocks (available at hardware stores) in the shape you want for your fire pit. Fire-Pit-and-Grilling-Guru.com suggests building a circular fire pit to contain heat and protect against exploding embers. The cinder blocks should be arranged so that the bottom edges of each are connected to one another.

    • 3). Layer another round of cinder blocks on top of the first so that the gaps of the first layer are covered by the second. Only two layers are required; anything taller and it'll be hard to see and tend to the fire.

    • 4). Lay a metal grill grate on top of the circular pit to see if it fits the space.
