Why More People Leaving The Corporate World In Search of The Simple Life?
The corporate world has, for most of the 20th Century, dominated the mindset and priorities of the average person. It has shaped the values and life structure for the vast majority of individuals, from the time they leave college to the time they retire -- if they retire. However, in the beginning of the 21st Century, we've been seeing a dramatic shift towards inner realization as a priority over the external pursuit of the almighty dollar. People are actualizing this shift in a variety of ways.
Many people manifest the quest for spiritual salvation through travel to various spiritual destinations around the world. Throughout countries like India, Thailand, and China, there are spiritual aspirants seeking to learn Hindu, Buddhist, and Taoist ascetic principles for attaining Nirvana. In South America, many pursue Native American shamanistic traditions tying them to the spirits of nature. In Africa, people explore and reside in different tribes to learn indigenous rituals connecting them with the earth. There are aspirants seeking to connect more deeply with Truth, from the roots of life to the winds of heaven, leaving behind their career and possessions to do so.
On the flip side, there are people who don't necessarily physically travel or relocate, but turn their entire attention inwards while remaining in the same location. They undergo deep meditation or prayer at the temples or churches in the nearby vicinity. They forego the comforts of a steady income in favor of simply allocating energy and time towards delving deep into the workings within. They go through grueling intensity, requiring a total dedication to their practice, not providing any room for other activities including work.
Many have come to the conclusion there is no other priority in the world worth attaining as important as inner peace, and this is reflected in their life path. However, while many people are starting to take these extreme paths, there are countless people who aren't ready for such a drastic step, but are still starting to cultivate the yearning for deeper truth. Fortunately, many workplaces around the world are starting to make room for employee spiritual practices. Allowances, like dedicated time and space for meditation, prayer and yoga, are becoming more common in corporate wellness initiatives all over the world, from large international companies to smaller mom-and-pop shops. These provide an alternative spiritual path for those not quite ready to make the jump out of the careers, while at the same time catering to employee interests in spiritual exploration.
It is clear that spiritual priorities are reshaping the world. The world is moving towards a more awakened outlook, which involves more and more people making the switch towards a lifestyle that foregoes their career in the corporate world for pursuit of Truth. That said, even with more people leaving the corporate world, there are many who stay within their jobs while pursuing spiritual practices at the same time. This combination could very well be a viable alternative for most people, and perhaps the best of both worlds.
