    Patch Cords

    • Use the three prone patch cords that have white, red and yellow connectors. The patch cords are hooked to the input on the VCR and to the output on the DirecTV receiver. This allows you to record a show; however, you will need a set of patch cords from the output of the VCR to the input of the TV to watch what is recorded.

    Record Only Coaxial

    • Use the coaxial cable from the back of the TV's output to the VCR's input. This allows you to record what is playing on the TV, but does not allow for viewing what is recorded with the VCR.

    Record/Playback Coaxial

    • Run a coaxial cable for the back of the DirecTV receiver to the input on the VCR. Run another coaxial cable from the output of the VCR to the input on the TV. To watch TV, the VCR must remain on when the TV and receiver are on for the picture to show on the TV.

    Splitter

    • Take the coaxial from the output of the DirecTV receiver and connect it to the input on a splitter. Run a coaxial cable from the output of the splitter and run it to the input of the VCR. Use one set of patch cords from the VCR output to the patch cord connections on the back of the TV.

    Warning

    • Recording DirecTV using a VCR does not allow you to watch another channel. If you are watching the channel you are recording and change the channel, the VCR will record the new channel.
