How to Remove Matte From a Scanned Photo in Photoshop
- 1). Open Photoshop, click the "File" menu and select "Open." Browse to the photo with the matte to remove and double-click the image to open it in the Photoshop workspace.
- 2). Pull down the "Window" menu at the top of the screen and select "Layers" to open the "Layers" palette, which may be open by default in the bottom-right of the screen.
- 3). Right-click the Background layer and select "Duplicate Layer." Click "OK" and a Background copy layer is added.
- 4). Right-click the original Background layer and select "Delete layer." Click "Yes" at the warning window.
- 5). Pull down the "Layer" menu at the top of the screen. Select "Matting." Click either "Remove Black Matte" or "Remove White Matte," or perform each one.
- 6). Click the "File" menu and select "Save As." Type a new name for the unmatted photo to preserve the original and save the new version to the computer.
