How to Change the Car Stereo in a 2003 Civic

    • 1). Lift the hood of the Civic and disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery terminal. Use a 10 mm wrench to loosen the negative battery cable clamp and move the cable from the battery terminal.

    • 2). Remove the trim panel that surrounds the gear selector lever with a trim panel removal tool.

    • 3). Remove the two screws at the forward-most edge of the center console with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

    • 4). Pull the lower dash panel (beneath the stereo assembly) from the dashboard.

    • 5). Remove the two bolts under the center of the dashboard with an 8 mm socket and ratchet.

    • 6). Slide the factory stereo assembly from the dashboard far enough to access the stereo wiring connected to the back of the factory radio.

    • 7). Disconnect the stereo wiring from the rear panel of the stock stereo. Pull the black antenna cable from the back of the factory radio.

    • 8). Pull the factory radio from the stereo mounting bracket

    • 9). Insert the faceplate adapter into the Civic's empty stereo mounting dock.

      Connect the stereo wiring to a wiring harness adapter. Consult the adapter manual for proper connection points. The plastic stereo wiring connectors plug into the harness adapter leads.

      Plug the wiring harness adapter leads into the corresponding outlets on the back panel of the new stereo. Plug the antenna cable into the new radio's FM antenna outlet.

      Slide the radio into the faceplate adapter until it snaps into place.

      Replace the bolts on the underside of the stereo mounting dock, beneath the dashboard.

      Replace the lower dash panel below the dashboard and screw in the two screws on the center console with the screwdriver.

      Replace the trim panel around the gear selector lever and press firmly to snap it into place.

    • 16

      Place the negative battery cable onto the negative battery terminal lead and tighten the cable's clamp with the wrench. Close the Honda's hood.
