How to Install Metal Flashing Bands for Freezes
- 1). Measure the area of the foundation you are going to cover. The freeze is the bottom part of the foundation and the flashing will be installed near the base of the house over the freeze. Run a tape measure along the entire perimeter of the house and record the measurement so the proper amount of flashing can be installed.
- 2). Locate all the leaks along the brick on the outside of the house. Slide a tube of exterior silicone sealant into a caulk gun and cut off the tip of the sealant at a 45-degree angle with a utility knife. Press the trigger on the caulk gun and run a bead of sealant into all of the cracks to seal them up properly before apply the flashing bands.
- 3). Apply the self-adhesive flashing band tape over top of the base of the brick. Run it along the entire base of the house and press it into place with a small 1-inch roller. Move the roller back and forth over the entire surface until the flashing band tape is secure to the side of the house.
- 4). Turn the metal flashing upside down and squirt a small S-shaped line of liquid nails over the back of the metal flashing. Move from one end to the other with the adhesive. Place the metal flashing on top of the flashing band tape you just installed and press it firmly into place by hand.
- 5). Go around the entire base of the brick. Cut the metal flashing, if necessary with tin snips and continue in the same manner until the entire area has been covered and the brick freeze is sealed from the elements.
