The search for added blessings
This is one of the more famous verses in the Gospels that seems relatively straightforward but might be difficult to precisely interpret and apply.
One item would be the pursuit of say money or what money might represent, and there are so many examples where people are willing to step on toes and do whatever it takes for that.
And there is a widening gap between what people have skills in, and what they can actually get paid for amply.
A large part of that is the convenience of technology, where people are now used to having information and wanted entertainment at their fingertips and don't want a big bill entering that space, combined with speed of convenience as well.
One aspect of interpreting this passage, is to just view things as they are happening and as they tabulate and you can see that things are being added, even if it doesn't fit the precise idea of what is precisely wanted. a different picture view might show that indeed additions are at hand and now occuring..
People do get added things all the time, in many difference ways, and it is important to see this as something that is occurring and a signal that things can and will be added.
The idea is in terms of discernment to look at what is happening and try to figure out how it may or is piecing together as something that is being added i whether in quality or quantity and focus where the additions are leading towards. or being planted for harverst for..
There is a matter of trust in this as well, for example is someone gets a ticket to say Rome gratis, with the whole trip being a gift or a win on some sort of prize, there still might be hesitation on the trip for any number of reasons, including outright fear, of say flying, or of being in an unfamiliar place.
There might be two approached to someone wanting the same thing.
One is they might do just about anything to get where they want to go or be, and be willing potentiallh to get involved with underhanded tactics to do this, or maybe not but the pursuit might take on single minded aspects where seeking the presence of the Lord and the ways of the Lord can be brushed aside and certainly don't come first.
Â
Jeremiah Chapter 13 verse 25 says, This is thy lot, the portion of they measures, from me, saith the Lord, because that has forgotton me and trusted in falsehood.
These people went after what they wanted in a subversive fashion, not paying mind to the Lord and trusting in falsehoods, and there portion and measure suffered because of this.
This almost assumes that no snags will arise, and for the believer you do want the cultivated first view relationship where you can go the Lord and go continually to the Lord as things come up.
On the other hand, there is the issue of really wanting the additions, and even while seeking the Kingdom first, these additions are mentioned and either way they are an issue.
There is no reason to sidestep the issue even while seeking the Lord, in that if this really is an issue that comes under the heading of all these things will be added, there is no reason not to bring right to the forefront, even while not panicking and going into heavy duty self-seeking at the expense of a balanced approach to prayer which should according to the scripture maintain and continue with an outward focus.
But there is no need to brush real issues under the rug, and pretend that an issue is not an issue, and with regards to that you can seek council from the Lord as to how to approach this issue and delve into it.
If I don't like hockey and I don't have a ticket to the big game, it isn't an issue, but if I love the game and really want to go to this big game, them it is an issue of truly wanting something and being interested in something..
But in the course of prayer, fellowship and worship, there is no reason to put the blinders on real issues and follow preset agendas to the tee in that strong willing your way, totally, is tantamount to missing the power and direction of the Spirit in your paths..
Another key to reading into this passage is not to hold on to your agenda so tightly but more so pay attention to what the Lord is actually bringing forth and adding.
Whatever is being added, should not suffocate or overwhelm the primary course of being able to seek first the kingdom and maintain that. and the additions are like flowing springs of water, glistening and glittering yes, but still not to be considered primary..
So it could be argued that this seeking, even if and when additions are found and occurring, would still maintain its status and seeking first.
It would not be like getting our boat and then sailing away from the Lord.
The seeking first policy would still hold even within the additions.
That is the first grip also in that, even if this or that additional is lost for some reason, the Lord will bring in another addition as from his expanding universe of possibilities..
It is also important to see that additions are not paramount.
Whether Elijah had prominence in the world, whether he had lots of possesions or not, whether he had what he wanted in all areas or not, was not the factor in his ability to call upon the Lord and have the weather pattern of the earth for years happen along a ceratin specific pathway based on his call to the Lord in prayer.
Â
At the same time, the weather itself did entwine with additions and was an issue either way.
Even in this day and age, a lot depends on weather conditions. in the context of what can and can't be done expediously..
While it is good to sequester away and keep a prayer focus on an issue is an issue and it is okay to bring it up prayer wise in that if a few cogs in the wheel are missing, additional help and resources are needed, if the Lord really does agree on this and does want to take you in this direction, understanding that the power belongs to the Lord,
, .
There will and are going to be additions, but the relationship with the Lord his kingdom is primary and not predicated on any given addition, but on the qualities the Lord is demonstrating in bringing forth the addtions, such as the quality of caring in the case of the multiplication of the loaves miracle.
