How to Replace Your iPod Touch's Headphone Jack
- 1). Use a heat gun or blow dryer to warm and soften the adhesive that secures the front panel. This step is not absolutely necessary, but it will make the next step much easier.
- 2). Insert an iPod opening tool into the crack between the front panel and the body, and pry up gently. Continue along the edge of the iPod until you can separate the front panel. Because the front panel will still be attached to the logic board by a thin ribbon cable, flip the panel over so it's lying face down, out of the way.
- 3). Remove the eight screws from along the edges of the electromagnetic interference shield using a small Phillips screwdriver.
- 4). Remove the metal cover from the rear camera by using the iPod tool to pry it up. This is the small metal plate about one-half inch square in the top right corner of the iPod body.
- 5). Use the iPod tool to pry up the metal EMI shield. Be careful not to tear the thin piece of copper tape that connects the shield to the rear camera. When you've lifted the shield enough to access the tape, peel it off the camera and remove the shield.
- 6). Remove the single headphone jack retaining screw using a small Phillips screwdriver. The headphone jack is in the bottom right corner of the case and you access the screw from inside the case.
- 7). Use the iPod opening tool to pry the square connector of its terminal on the logic board, and remove the headphone jack from the iPod.
- 8). Position the new headphone jack in the iPod case and attach it with the retaining screw., and then press the connector onto its terminal on the logic board.
- 9). Position the EMI shield in the case and replace the screws. If you choose, you can apply an adhesive strip to the battery to secure the shield, but this is unnecessary because the screws will hold it firmly in place.

Apply adhesive strips to the sides and bottom of the case, and position the front panel. Press along the edges to snap it into place and form a seal. You can purchase an adhesive strip kit online. As an alternative, a few drops of rubber cement spread around the edges will also secure the panel.
