    Open the Computer Tower

    • 1). Turn the 4500S off and remove all cables and connections leading to the computer's tower. Place the computer on a table or work surface with enough room to freely work on the machine.

    • 2). Lay the computer on its side. The bottom of the tower has an arrow on it for reference; lay the computer with the arrow facing upward.

    • 3). Locate both release buttons to open the case. The buttons are near the back of the tower on the top and bottom. Press both buttons at the same time as you lift, pulling off the side of the computer's casing.

    Replace the Memory Modules

    • 1). Locate the memory module connectors and the previously installed 256MB of RAM. It will be on the computer's motherboard situated somewhat near the middle of the board and above the AGP and PCI slots. If you're still having trouble locating the connectors, look at the owner's manual for the computer, which has illustrations of the inside of the PC.

    • 2). Unfasten the connector clips at each end of the 256MB memory module. Gently pull the RAM out of the connector, rocking it back and forth softly if it gets stuck.

    • 3). Align the memory with the notches facing the memory module connector. Gently push it down into place, pushing evenly on both sides to make sure the module is completely inserted. Upon full insertion, you'll hear the RAM snap into place. If inserted correctly, the snapping fasteners at each end of the module will snap up easily, locking the RAM into place.

    Restore PC

    • 1). Ensure that no loose tools or items are left inside the computer's casing and slowly lower the top half back onto the computer. You'll hear the two cover release buttons snap back into place once the tower is put back together.

    • 2). Plug all of the cables and wires back into the computer and turn it on. Wait while the operating system loads.

    • 3). Press "Start" and right-click "My Computer." Click "Properties" and then the "General" tab. This screen should tell you how much RAM your PC now has; if the memory was installed correctly, the dialog box should now reflect the new amount.
