Earning Online is a Game

Well, the title of this piece says it all about the way I look at making money on the internet. I think the best way to go about a new online venture is to look at it like its a game or competition. Why? Because this allows you to escape the idea of work, and get in a mode of competing, excitement, and even fun. Whether you are working online as a full time job, or if you are doing it to supplement your offline income, it is important to set your state of mind in the right direction. In order to do this though, you can not start off in a poor economic condition. If you "have to make money" rather then "want to make money," this strategy will not succeed. You can not enjoy the "game" if the game depends of whether you eat dinner or not. Here are a couple strategies to look at Internet business promoting in a gamers mindset:

#1 Find Competition

This works well if you are able to track other competitors success. For instance if you are running a forum, or content related site, it is easy to see how well other sites in your niche are doing. You can use Alexa Ranks, Google Page Rank, Rss Subscribers, Forum members/post count, and other variables to track how well you are doing compared to your competition. Plant in your mind that you want to beat a certain competitors website by a certain ranking in Alexa, or total number of new RSS subscribers for a particular month. If you can do this in a way that motivates you, while creating a sense of competition, the work will be much easier for you to bare, and you will be less likely of burning out.

#2 Compete With Yourself
This is simple. Just try beating your numbers week after week. Have a goal of constant growth in certain areas, and if you meet these goals reward yourself by going out to a nice dinner, or buying that Big screen Tv you wanted.

These quick strategies work great especially if you find yourself unmotivated sometimes.
