How to Paint a Shower Surround
- 1). Scrub the shower surround with dishwashing detergent, using a coarse plastic brush. Rinse the surround thoroughly, or you will have problems with adhesion. Allow the surround to dry.
- 2). Sand the shower surround with the palm sander and 300-grit sandpaper to abrade the surround and stimulate adhesion. Stop sanding when the surround feels slightly rough to the touch.
- 3). Apply a coat of acrylic latex primer, using a roller frame stocked with a nap roller cover. Smooth the wet primer, using a paintbrush manufactured for latex paints. Allow the primer to dry for two hours.
- 4). Wash all painting tools with water.
- 5). Pour the epoxy resin into the 5-gallon bucket, and stir in the catalyst with a wooden stir stick.
- 6). Apply a coat of epoxy, using a roller stocked with a 3000 cover. Allow the epoxy to cure for one full day before using the shower.
