Painting Automobile Wheels
- 1). Wash the automobile wheels with a heavy-duty trisodium phosphate cleaner, using a coarse plastic brush. Stock the pressure washer with a low-pressure tip. Rinse the cleaner from the automobile wheels using the pressure washer. Dry the wheels with clean rags.
- 2). Drive the automobile onto fabric drop cloths. Skip this step if the wheels are detached from the vehicle.
- 3). Protect the tires by covering them with masking paper, using painter's tape. Skip this step if the wheels are free of tires.
- 4). Spray one thin coat of galvanized metal etching primer onto the automobile wheels. Hold the spray nozzle eight inches from the wheels at all times, as you apply. Wait four full hours for the etching primer to dry and cure.
- 5). Spray two thin coats of enamel onto the automobile wheels. Hold the spray nozzle eight inches from the wheels as you apply. Wait two hours between coats. Wait four hours before driving the automobile.
