How to Maintain the Relationship to God

    • 1). Search for a relationship with God by learning about him through the Bible or Koran. Everything you need to know about God is recorded in these books. Do you think you would have a better understanding of a person if you could read his diary? God has placed all of his thoughts and actions in a few books. Read and you will learn what you mean to him and how to maintain the relationship he has built for you.

    • 2). Spending time with God is as simple as prayer. You can do it in the privacy of your home, driving the car, cleaning the house or in church, synagogue or mosque. The important thing is if you want to stay close, you have to communicate. If you have a close friend you call them often; do the same with God. Prayer is your conversation with him.

    • 3). Exercise your faith. What is faith? Sharon Jaynes in her devotion, "Faith -- The Conviction of Things Not Seen," states that faith is believing that, "Father knows best, no matter what." That requires trust, as well. We exercise trust every day in things, but very little in people. We get in our car and expect it to steer properly; we do not give it a second thought. Faith in God is just that -- letting him steer when we want him to take the wheel.

    • 4). Take worship to a new level. Worship and praise him with your life. John W. Follette states in his book, "Golden Grain," "Worship is a tremendous self-giving to God." He also states that worship and praise are different. Worship is born out of the spirit and praise is something we do, an action. Living our lives as he desires is worship. Ask him what his desire is for your life because he knows best.

    • 5). Give praise to the living God. We praise people all of the time. The tabloids and newspapers are full of praise for celebrities. Turn that praise and admiration to the one that made you and you will connect with him in a personal relationship.
