Still with hydrangeas, this is Nicholas Staddon from Monrovia Nursery. We are going to talk about controlling a Hydrangea's size. Now there's a topic of conversation. Controlling a Hydrangea's size is not difficult. First and foremost you can buy smaller varieties, Pink Elf is a great variety, a small compact model with beautiful hot pink flowers, Mini Penny is another great variety, that's one of the repeat blooming flavors, very often. If you plant your Hydrangea in full shade, it will cause them to stretch. There's another reason, you can ease back on the fertilizer. That in itself will keep them a little bit smaller and then, there's the pruners and so, it hurts me as it will but the plant will recover quickly. We're just going to show you where and how you should prune a Hydrangea. So you always cut them between the internodes, go at an angle, about an inch above where the leaves break. It's very easy, do it quickly. No one will feel any pain whatsoever, least of all you or the plant. This is just an easy way to control the size. It will get them nice and busy and full. You can see already it's really evened the plant up. So pruners, fertilizers, the few things we've discussed all of these can help keep your Hydrangea a little bit smaller.
