How to Keep Handles From Tearing Out in Cardboard Boxes
- 1). Place the cardboard box on a flat surface or on the ground so that you can easily maneuver it.
- 2). Turn the box so one of the handles is facing you.
- 3). Cut a 4-inch length of gaffers tape. Stick it firmly parallel to the handle hole on the box, so that the edge of the gaffers tape is flush with the edge of the hole.
- 4). Apply tape around all edges of the cardboard box handles. In effect, surround the handle hole with gaffers tape. Follow this same process for the inside of the box. Tape the inside and the outside of all box handles.
- 5). Cut a 2-inch length of gaffers tape and put it halfway through one of the handle holes. Then, fold the tape down so it sticks to the inside and the outside of the box. Do this at the top, bottom and sides of each handle hole. Doubling up the tape in this way reinforces the handle.
