Curb Appeal - Inexpensive Tips
All you need is some elbow grease and creativity.
After looking at all of the home improvement shows on TV, an owner may think that a bundle of money is needed to make their home look attractive to potential buyers.
It's not.
The first thing you can do is to make sure any dead plants in pots or the garden are removed.
Fill in the hole if it's noticeable.
Also, trim down any overgrown shrubs and trim trees so that the front of the house is visible.
If people can't see it, they won't want to stop by.
Check out the siding or stucco and trim on your house and if it's ragged, smooth off and repaint if necessary.
If window boxes with attractive flowers are appropriate to the style of the house, make a rectangular box with three planks and end pieces, paint, then fill with potting soil and bedding plants.
Make sure that there are no holes in your fences or garbage laying around.
Is your garage door visible from the street? A quick coat of paint could spruce it up.
This adds much to your curb appeal.
Railings and fences should be attractive and complete.
Secure any loose pieces and paint if necessary.
Often, mismatched paint samples can be had dirt cheap from the home improvement store.
Check your stairways and paths and driveway and repair as best you can, for safety and curb appeal reasons.
Your front door should be appealing, so check that the hardware matches and that the door color is a good one.
If you have a porch light, replace if necessary or clean out any bugs.
Make sure that your house numbers are clearly shown, and attractive, as your mailbox should be.
Check out what your curtains and drapes look like from the outside.
Change to or add a plain liner if necessary.
Distracting windows are unattractive windows.
Make your front porch as attractive as you can with perhaps a little table and chairs, or a swing.
Put down a nice welcome mat.
Place a few potted plants on the steps by the railing.
Take a deep breath, then hang up the For Sale sign.
The more people that take a look at your house, the better the chance that you'll sell it quickly.
