How to Distress Furniture With a White Spray Paint
- 1). Put down a drop cloth to protect your working surface.
- 2). Remove all of the hardware with a screwdriver.
- 3). Sand the piece of wooden furniture with 100-grit sandpaper.
- 4). Color the furniture with a pastel spray paint. This acts as a base coat and gives your distressed furniture more depth.
- 5). Allow the paint to dry completely. Allow the paint to dry for at least one hour, and then touch it gently with your finger in an unobtrusive spot. Dry paint is smooth to the touch and does not leave a mark on your finger. If the paint is still wet, continue to let it sit.
- 6). Apply a coat of white spray paint to the furniture.
- 7). Allow the coat of white spray paint to dry completely for at least one hour. Touch it to see if it is dry. If it is still wet, allow it to dry for a longer period of time.
- 8). Sand the corners and the heavy wear spots on the furniture with 100-grit sandpaper, allowing the base coat color to come through. Some examples of heavy wear include the edges and the top surface of desks.
- 9). Screw the hardware back on to the furniture.
