The Best Way to Put Sand Into a Water Pool Filter
- 1). Disconnect power to the pool pump by turning the circuit breaker off that controls the pump, or unplugging the electrical cord from the electrical outlet.
- 2). Locate the flange clamp on top of the sand filter. Use a wrench and loosen the flange clamp, once the flange clamp is loosened, remove the filter control valve. If needed, the filter owner's manual will have a diagram.
- 3). Using the sand shield, cap the internal pipe. The sand shield is included with your sand filter and prevents any sand from entering the pipe, causing damage to the filter.
- 4). Slowly pour the appropriate sand needed into the filter. You can find the appropriate amount of sand needed on the sand media packaging and also on the sand filter. The amount depends greatly on the size of your pool.
- 5). Remove the sand shield from the internal pipe. Place the filter control valve back into place. Tighten and secure the flange clamp using the wrench.
