Sexuality in the Raelian Movement

The Raelian Movement is a vocal advocate for the removal of sexual taboos and an embracing of one's own sexuality. They teach that our alien creators, the Elohim, created us with the expectation that we would enjoy the pleasures of our bodies and our environment. This outlook has frequently led to the rumor that Raelian gatherings regularly descend into orgies.

Orgies?

Orgies are not a part of standard Raelian practices.

However, Raelians tend to be very sensual and forward people. They hug and kiss one another at meetings. They frequently dress in revealing clothes. They touch, massage and caress, but only among consenting participants.
It is not unusual for a visitor to be propositioned by an interested member at such a gathering, although refusal is not taken as offensive in any way, and in any case the sex certainly isn't expected to be public.

Commitment

Arrangement between partners is also considered a personal choice. According to Susan Palmer in Aliens Adored, 40% of Raelian guides (priests) were in monogamous relationships at the time of her study. Rael himself appears to be a serial monogamous, committing himself to a single woman for a matter of years until the couple decides to go their separate ways.
Another 28% described themselves as celibate. There is an entire branch of Raelian guides known as Rael's Angels who are saving themselves for the Elohim and their prophets (of which Rael is one).

13% considered themselves unattached but having frequent sexual encounters, and 8% stated they were in an open relationship: they had a partner, but both partners were allowed sexual relationships outside of that partnership, often limited by arrangement between the partners.

These numbers don't make the Raelians stand starkly out of place in the modern world. Indeed, perhaps the most surprising of those states is the number of responses reflecting they weren't having sex at all.

Sexual Orientation

The Raelian Movement encourages believers to experiment with different partners and come to terms with whatever their true sexuality is. Whatever they choose, and, indeed, how much they even experiment, is a personal choice and accepted as such.
The majority of Raelians are, in fact, heterosexuals, but they welcome bisexuals, homosexuals, transvestites and so forth without judgment, considering all such options equally viable.

Raelian men often appear somewhat feminine. This has nothing to do with their sexuality. The Elohim are described as being very feminized beings, and Raelians are encouraged to nurture their more feminine sides, cultivating empathy, intuition and pacifism.

Teen Sex

The Raelians believe that teens should be able to sexually experiment as they come into adulthood, and that teaching them to deny their sexual urges is unhealthy. However, they are also adamant that such experimentation should be between teenagers, not between teens and adults.

Pedophilia

The Raelians are vehemently against pedophilia. Raelians see sex as being about love and trust, and pedophilia takes blatant advantage of those who do not fully comprehend the situation. Pedophilia is about power, abuse and exploitation, and the Raelians absolutely condemn it.

Contraception

Raelians are strong supporters of contraception use, for the prevention of both pregnancy and the spread of STDs. They also strongly support programs that provide tests for STDs, particularly AIDS, so that these patients can seek treatment and engage in safer relationships in the future.
Rael urges Raelians to avoid adding more children to the planet, considering current population levels damaging and unhealthy. However, large numbers of Raelians have one or two children, although rarely more than two.
