    • 1). Type "ntdsutil" in "Start" > "Run" and hit Enter. This will open up the Ntdsutil command prompt.

    • 2). Type "set dsrm password" (without quotes) at the command prompt. This will open the DSRM command prompt.

    • 3). Reset the password. To reset the DSRM Administrator password on a local server, type "reset password on server null." The term "null" tells the system that the password change is for the local computer.

      To reset the password for a specific server, type "reset password on server," where "server" is the DNS name of the server for which you want to reset the password.

    • 4). Enter the new password and hit "Enter." The command prompt will not show any characters for the new password you type.

    • 5). Type "q" at the DSRM command prompt and hit Enter.

    • 6). Type "q" at the Ntdsutil command prompt and hit Enter.
