ElfSpirit: Okay, I and Joyce, my maybe-to-be-here-soon partner, have been actively involved with crystals for about twelve years. We run Beyond the Rainbow on the Internet. The web site has a lot of articles about crystals, and we also publish a monthly email newsletter about crystals. We've given workshops on crystals for a number of years, and today we'd like to discuss some basics. First, I'd like to know what people here are interested in learning about. Does anyone need encouragement. Our general plan is to talk about clearing, charging, and programming crystals.
lila: do crystal lose any of their healing properties when they are faceted for jewelry
sapphire: how about picking them out?
ElfSpirit: Ok, I'm going to start with picking them out. There are several ways. One is to think about what you'd like to change in your life. Then go to a book or detailed chart, and see what fits.
ElfSpirit: Another, if you are physically in a crystal store, is to see what feels right for you.
sapphire: by holding them?
ElfSpirit: Yes, or by running your hand over them. (This is about choosing crystals)
ElfSpirit: Sometimes it takes time to become attuned to a crystal's energy. We're so used to thinking of them as rocks.
Jeanie: so what do you get when you run your hand over them?
ElfSpirit: Also, once you have crystals, keeping them around you; lots of people like to sleep with them, gets you more attuned. So does meditating with crystals.
lila: I use my Reiki sometimes to choose a crystal running my hands over them - when the hand warms up -signals me
sapphire: so it doesn't hurt to carry one with you in your pocket?
ElfSpirit: That's a good idea. Reiki and crystals go together very well. It's a really good idea to do that or wear one. I sometimes wear several. It's being in the energy of crystals. I have them all around my house. This is also really good in terms of Feng Shui, which is the ancient art of space from China.
lila: don't some crystals clash with one another Elf?
ElfSpirit: I don't feel that way, although I've been asked that question a lot. They're all together in the earth. It may be true that certain crystals aren't compatible with someone's energy. I don't work with obsidian.
ElfSpirit: If there aren't any questions right now, I'll go on to clearing crystals.
panda: How would you know which crystals aren't compatible with your energy?
ElfSpirit: You would hold the crystal, and it would feel unpleasant.
lila: but obsidian wouldn't automatically be wrong for someone else, you aren't saying that are you?
ElfSpirit: No, not at all, it's just wrong for me. Lots of people like the way obsidian makes them get into action. It's known for that.
ElfSpirit: Some people choose crystals based on colors they're drawn to.I love green.
lila: ty
sapphire: but would it hurt to carry obsidian and a crystal at the same time?
lila: I was drawn to a peridot a couple of years ago
ElfSpirit: It's a good idea, because any form of quartz will soften obsidian's energy, and make it easier to work with.
ElfSpirit: Peridot is very good for soothing bruised egos. It helps to balance the solar plexus chakra.
ElfSpirit: Would anyone like to ask about any particular crystals?
lila: Yellow topaz
ElfSpirit: Yellow, or golden topaz, is a great energy conductor. If you look at your topaz, you see the striations along it. It balances the energy. Golden topaz also relates to the sign of Scorpio.
Jeanie: calcite?
ElfSpirit: Calcite is one of my favorites. It basically helps to see the world in a different way, from a different perspective. When we're stuck we're seeing what we always saw and coming up with the same old non-solutions. Calcite helps us to look at our lives from an expanded viewpoint. The particular colors of calcite alter its energy somewhat. Pink is for the heart; green (which also relates to the heart) is for releasing fixed ideas. I find that it's one of the most useful stones for getting rid of mental blockages.
ElfSpirit: Any other questions about individual stones?
panda: Any thing in particular for smoky calcite?
ElfSpirit: That would have a grounding effect (smoky calcite). Is it smoky or honey (amber color)? Honey calcite helps us to manifest change in the area of work or career or home.
panda: It is Smokey
ElfSpirit: Then, as I said above, It will help to ground the changes you want to create.
panda: What do you mean?
ElfSpirit: First, panda. You can decide to make a change, but find yourself slipping back into the old ways of thinking. Working with smoky calcite will help to keep you on track.
lila: would calcite be helpful for organization then?
ElfSpirit: Pyrite would be better. There's a mental trinity: calcite, for new ways of thinking, pyrite for developing creative ways of manifesting the new, and fluorite, which helps you organize. I meant fluorite, not pyrite.
ElfSpirit: They all work together, and if you know what they look like they all have geometric formations. So you could call them rational stones, related to the mind.
lila: that's cool - the pyramid for mental clarity, thank you
sapphire: so if you wanted to manifest changes would you use honey calcite or pyrite?
ElfSpirit: I would use fluorite. Saying pyrite was a mistake. That's basically for creativity and also for abundance. I would actually recommend working with all three.
lila: Elf, perhaps you would like to go on to clearing
ElfSpirit: OK. There are various ways to do this: with salt water, salt, smudge sticks, Reiki, sound. Many people don't like to use salt, and no soft crystal, or one with a highly polished surface should be put in salt.
lila: I've heard that salt water is harmful.
ElfSpirit: Salt water isn't good for crystals which may dissolve, such as selenite. And that's why many people like to use smudge sticks, which are totally harmless. If you are a Reiki practitioner you can hold your crystal in your hand and Reiki it. If you do use salt water it's good to keep the crystal(s) in it for at least 24 hours.
lila: how often should we clear the stones?
ElfSpirit: Times to clear are when you first get a crystal, or when you've programmed it for something and now want to program it for something else. Also, when you've been releasing a lot.
ElfSpirit: When you smudge a crystal, you pass it through the smoke, and you can do this as often as you like.
Jeanie: does releasing a lot mean clearing your energy?
ElfSpirit: Yes, it does. If you've been meditating with crystals on your body they will absorb the released energy. Then you need to clear them.
ElfSpirit: Are there any particular questions about clearing? Shall we go to charging?
Psych: how do you use sound for clearing?
ElfSpirit: You could hum or chant in a steady voice. Mantras are good. You can use a chime or a
Psych: i also read once you can clear the stones by putting them in the ground outside for a night when there is a full moon, do you know anything about that?
ElfSpirit: Charging is putting a particular energy into a crystal.
lila: clearing crystals after you have used them as tools during a healing session is appropriate
ElfSpirit: I would say necessary, just as you wash your hands after giving a Reiki treatment.
ElfSpirit: I would call putting a crystal out in the Full Moon charging, because it will be filled with a particular energy, such as that of completion, or fullness.
ElfSpirit: Clearing is removing energy, charging is adding it. You can put a crystal in running water for the energy of flow, or in the light of the New Moon for increase. If you Reiki it using the symbols each symbol will put a particular energy into the crystal. You can also charge a crystal by putting it into a pyramid.

lila: I have a carnelian that is a traveling stone. I keep it in my suitcase
sapphire: how long in the ocean?
ElfSpirit: Not too long. They should be supervised; they might jump out
Joyette: Connie and I once charged our crystals in the ocean in Ireland. Whenever we wanted to remember that trip we meditate with those crystals.
ElfSpirit: That's a good point. Your crystals will remember where you've been.
Joyette: Another great way to charge your crystals is to sit them on top of a large quartz or amy cluster.
lila: perhaps put the stones in a mesh bag in the ocean to hold them
ElfSpirit: That will help, but a kid's bucket is probably the best. And be careful if there are high waves.
sapphire: kids bucket?
Jeanie: I was told once to ask my crystals which one wanted to go to a certain bedroom. How do they answer you?
ElfSpirit: If you hold them you may feel a particular vibration. One might start to look especially bright and shiny. You could close your eyes and visualize which ones want to come.

ElfSpirit: One of the best things I've found about crystals is that you can learn to become really intuitive.

Joyette: Both. The crystal charges the plant and the plant charges the crystal with plant energy.
lila: Joy - do you bury them in the dirt - or set them on top?
ElfSpirit: You can also bury crystals in the earth.
Joyette: I bury them in the soil.
lila: do you mine your own crystals?
Joyette: Elfsprit and Joyette are on two different computers in two different places thus duplicate replies
ElfSpirit: No, we buy them.
Joyette: No, we have several suppliers who get them from all over the world

lila: let's say I'm wanting to get past life information - and I don't know Reiki, can I charge certain stones to vacillate that?
ElfSpirit: Yes, you can. Kyanite (blue) is used for that. I've used quartz clusters, and acted as if each point were a different channel.
lila: to help obtain information in meditation sessions?
Joyette: There are particular stones that work very well to help in past life recall. One of the is kyanite.
lila: I guess that is what I was wondering - you would charge a particular stone - not just any stone depending on what you wanted
ElfSpirit: You can use clear quartz for anything.
ElfSpirit: Programming is basically putting your intention into a crystal. I'll try to explain this simply. All thought has vibration. We're all affected by vibrations. Joyette, do you want to continue?
Joyette: You are basically storing a vibration into your crystal for the future. There are many ways of programming a crystal.
ElfSpirit: If you're going to be away from someone you can program crystals to make you closer to each other.
bean: What kind of crystals are best for healing cancer?
Joyette: One of the best stones for physical healing is aventurine. Another good one is sugilite because it helps one to release anger and resentment.
ElfSpirit: A legal note: The FDA doesn't like us to make claims, this is based on our experiences.

Joyette: One thing someone with an illness can do is write an affirmation down and then put the under a crystal and hold it for a while with your affirmation statement. Then leave crystal on top of affirmation.

ElfSpirit: Clear quartz are the basic ones to program, but rose quartz for love, citrine for abundance, etc.
Joyette: We have manifested many wonderful things in our lives by programming our crystals, i.e. better relationship between our two cats. Getting our storefront for a crystal store in Greenwich village. Store is now closed.

ElfSpirit: It could depend on the illness. This relates to the chakras. Sugilite is widely used for cancer.

lila: do you find that written affirmations work better than say spoken word or visualization?
ElfSpirit: I use all of them. It's connecting the mind, the emotions, the visual senses. Also feel how it will feel to have what you want.
Joyette: We have dozens of affirmations under crystals in every area of our home. Yes, I do feel that writing them down is very powerful
ElfSpirit: It's really important to be able to feel how the new feeling will be. How does it feel to have a newer, nicer apartment?
lila: I have a magic jar that I put in affirmations - guess I should place a crystal inside it also.
ElfSpirit: Great idea. Or more than one.
Joyette: Lila I have a jar that has about a hundred stones and I often put my affirmations in the jar. Also it is important how you phrase your affirmation. Always phrase it as if it is in the present not in the future.
ElfSpirit: Who would like to talk about meditating with crystals? I found that meditating was much easier when I began to work with crystals.
sandcastle: I would definitely-am having a difficult time meditating
ElfSpirit: Try holding a clear quartz crystal in one hand and a smoky quartz in the other.
Joyette: We might mention that there are at least two forms of meditating, active and passive.
bean: can you explain the difference
Joyette: Active would be if you were swimming and while doing your laps you kept repeating your affirmation. Or when you were out hiking you could do the same while focusing on the beautiful trees.
ElfSpirit: Or a great workout where you're completely focused on what you're doing. In Buddhism it's called mindfulness.
Joyette: Passive could be lying down listening to a guided meditation. Or you could just be listening to very calming music.
ElfSpirit: Lying down is good for meditating with crystals.
bean: Tell us more about what crystals to use while meditating
ElfSpirit: You can use quartz crystals on each chakra. You can use crystals that match chakra colors and there isn't complete agreement about those colors. I use black or brown for the root chakra. I use clear for the crown chakra.
Joyette: The quality of your meditation will improve when you make crystals part of your meditation. Crystals help to focus your energy and your thoughts. They raise your vibrational purpose in life.
ElfSpirit: You can put crystals around you: two at the shoulders and hips, one at the head one at the feet, the Star of David layout.
Joyette: Some typos there. They raise your vibrations and help to turn your attention to your greater purpose in life.
ElfSpirit: If you have a favorite crystal of any kind it's nice to hold it while you meditate. We mentioned kyanite for past life work. This goes on the third eye or brow chakra. Some people like to use very small clusters on each chakra (quartz clusters). If you're feeling sad you might want to put rose quartz on your heart. Gazing at a crystal is also meditative, especially a clear crystal with rainbows.
Joyette: If you want to manifest abundance in your life try citrine on your third chakra. Joyette: Yes Elfspirit the large citrine generator is a library crystal.
SingingWind: Do you feel there is a difference in meditating with one of the master crystals mentioned in Raphaell's books.
ElfSpirit: I don't think I have a master crystal. Singing Wind, would you describe a Master Crystal for everyone? Is that a master crystal?
SingingWind:I think I have used the wrong words with "master", I am trying to find her book. But like a dow crystal or a generator, or an Isis, or some of those others.
ElfSpirit: Katrina Raphaell says there are only 12 Master Crystals. A special point, as Singing Wind has described, has special energies.
Joyette: Yes it is called a lightbrar not a

ElfSpirit: I would use fluorite. Saying pyrite was a mistake. That's basically for creativity and also for abundance. I would actually recommend working with all three.
lila: Elf, perhaps you would like to go on to clearing
ElfSpirit: OK. There are various ways to do this: with salt water, salt, smudge sticks, Reiki, sound. Many people don't like to use salt, and no soft crystal, or one with a highly polished surface should be put in salt.
lila: I've heard that salt water is harmful.
ElfSpirit: Salt water isn't good for crystals which may dissolve, such as selenite. And that's why many people like to use smudge sticks, which are totally harmless. If you are a Reiki practitioner you can hold your crystal in your hand and Reiki it. If you do use salt water it's good to keep the crystal(s) in it for at least 24 hours.
lila: how often should we clear the stones?
ElfSpirit: Times to clear are when you first get a crystal, or when you've programmed it for something and now want to program it for something else. Also, when you've been releasing a lot.
ElfSpirit: When you smudge a crystal, you pass it through the smoke, and you can do this as often as you like.
Jeanie: does releasing a lot mean clearing your energy?
ElfSpirit: Yes, it does. If you've been meditating with crystals on your body they will absorb the released energy. Then you need to clear them.
ElfSpirit: Are there any particular questions about clearing? Shall we go to charging?
Psych: how do you use sound for clearing?
ElfSpirit: You could hum or chant in a steady voice. Mantras are good. You can use a chime or a

ElfSpirit: Charging is putting a particular energy into a crystal.
lila: clearing crystals after you have used them as tools during a healing session is appropriate
ElfSpirit: I would say necessary, just as you wash your hands after giving a Reiki treatment.
ElfSpirit: I would call putting a crystal out in the Full Moon charging, because it will be filled with a particular energy, such as that of completion, or fullness.
ElfSpirit: Clearing is removing energy, charging is adding it. You can put a crystal in running water for the energy of flow, or in the light of the New Moon for increase. If you Reiki it using the symbols each symbol will put a particular energy into the crystal. You can also charge a crystal by putting it into a pyramid.

ElfSpirit: Not too long. They should be supervised; they might jump out
Joyette: Connie and I once charged our crystals in the ocean in Ireland. Whenever we wanted to remember that trip we meditate with those crystals.
ElfSpirit: That's a good point. Your crystals will remember where you've been.
Joyette: Another great way to charge your crystals is to sit them on top of a large quartz or amy cluster.
lila: perhaps put the stones in a mesh bag in the ocean to hold them
ElfSpirit: That will help, but a kid's bucket is probably the best. And be careful if there are high waves.

Jeanie: I was told once to ask my crystals which one wanted to go to a certain bedroom. How do they answer you?
ElfSpirit: If you hold them you may feel a particular vibration. One might start to look especially bright and shiny. You could close your eyes and visualize which ones want to come.

Joyette: You are basically storing a vibration into your crystal for the future. There are many ways of programming a crystal.
ElfSpirit: If you're going to be away from someone you can program crystals to make you closer to each other.
bean: What kind of crystals are best for healing cancer?
Joyette: One of the best stones for physical healing is aventurine. Another good one is sugilite because it helps one to release anger and resentment.

ElfSpirit: I use all of them. It's connecting the mind, the emotions, the visual senses. Also feel how it will feel to have what you want.
Joyette: We have dozens of affirmations under crystals in every area of our home. Yes, I do feel that writing them down is very powerful
ElfSpirit: It's really important to be able to feel how the new feeling will be. How does it feel to have a newer, nicer apartment?
lila: I have a magic jar that I put in affirmations - guess I should place a crystal inside it also.
ElfSpirit: Great idea. Or more than one.
Joyette: Lila I have a jar that has about a hundred stones and I often put my affirmations in the jar. Also it is important how you phrase your affirmation. Always phrase it as if it is in the present not in the future.
ElfSpirit: Who would like to talk about meditating with crystals? I found that meditating was much easier when I began to work with crystals.

ElfSpirit: Try holding a clear quartz crystal in one hand and a smoky quartz in the other.
Joyette: We might mention that there are at least two forms of meditating, active and passive.
bean: can you explain the difference
Joyette: Active would be if you were swimming and while doing your laps you kept repeating your affirmation. Or when you were out hiking you could do the same while focusing on the beautiful trees.
ElfSpirit: Or a great workout where you're completely focused on what you're doing. In Buddhism it's called mindfulness.
Joyette: Passive could be lying down listening to a guided meditation. Or you could just be listening to very calming music.
ElfSpirit: Lying down is good for meditating with crystals.
bean: Tell us more about what crystals to use while meditating
ElfSpirit: You can use quartz crystals on each chakra. You can use crystals that match chakra colors and there isn't complete agreement about those colors. I use black or brown for the root chakra. I use clear for the crown chakra.
Joyette: The quality of your meditation will improve when you make crystals part of your meditation. Crystals help to focus your energy and your thoughts. They raise your vibrational purpose in life.
ElfSpirit: You can put crystals around you: two at the shoulders and hips, one at the head one at the feet, the Star of David layout.
Joyette: Some typos there. They raise your vibrations and help to turn your attention to your greater purpose in life.
ElfSpirit: If you have a favorite crystal of any kind it's nice to hold it while you meditate. We mentioned kyanite for past life work. This goes on the third eye or brow chakra. Some people like to use very small clusters on each chakra (quartz clusters). If you're feeling sad you might want to put rose quartz on your heart. Gazing at a crystal is also meditative, especially a clear crystal with rainbows.
Joyette: If you want to manifest abundance in your life try citrine on your third chakra. Joyette: Yes Elfspirit the large citrine generator is a library crystal.
SingingWind: Do you feel there is a difference in meditating with one of the master crystals mentioned in Raphaell's books.
ElfSpirit: I don't think I have a master crystal. Singing Wind, would you describe a Master Crystal for everyone? Is that a master crystal?
SingingWind:I think I have used the wrong words with "master", I am trying to find her book. But like a dow crystal or a generator, or an Isis, or some of those others.
ElfSpirit: Katrina Raphaell says there are only 12 Master Crystals. A special point, as Singing Wind has described, has special energies.
Joyette: Yes it is called a lightbrar not a
ElfSpirit: A generator has very focused energy. A dow is a triple channeler, to be in touch with your higher self, or a spirit entity.
SingingWind: would a dow channeler be a good one to meditate with in contacting your higherself?
ElfSpirit: A gemini helps to balance polarities, like you can't decide between two choices.

Joyette: The way phantoms are formed is a crystal starts forming and stops growing, another crystal starts forming around it and when it is mined you can see the first crystal inside the second one.

ElfSpirit: I had some emotional healing with peridot. I put bloodstone and aventurine in my cat's water. He has diabetes.

ElfSpirit: The cat's diabetes has improved, though I attribute it more to diet.
