How to Cook With a Chimenea
- 1). Start a fire in your chiminea and allow it to burn out the first time you use it. You want to make sure that your chiminea is seasoned and all factory chemicals or residues burn away before you use it for cooking. To be extra cautious, start a second or third fire and allow those to burn out as well.
- 2). Stack charcoal briquettes in a pyramid formation inside of the chiminea. Then light the briquettes.
- 3). Wait for the charcoal briquettes turn white then move them out of the pyramid formation and into an even layer in the chiminea. Do this with a grill shovel or grill tongs.
- 4). Add food to the chiminea. To prevent burning, wrap food in foil and set the food on top of the briquettes. You can also put a standing grill rack into your chiminea. Put the food on top of the grill rack and cook the food according to the recipe just as you would on a grill.
- 5). Remove your food from the chiminea with grill tongs and let the fire die out. After the chiminea has cooled, remove any leftover ash or debris from the chiminea with a grill or fireplace shovel and brush.
