- 1). Attach the game serial port adapter onto the game port on the back of the computer. Make sure the adapter is pushed firmly into the serial port, otherwise the controller is not going to function.
- 2). Plug the USB cable of the game controller into the USB side of the game port adapter.
- 3). Insert the driver installation disk into the computer and follow the prompts to install the driver, if one is required. Most new controllers, however, are plug-and-play, requiring no driver installation.
- 4). Click "Start" followed by "Control Panel." Select "Controllers" from the list of options.
- 5). Select the controller you have connected to the game port from the top pull-down menu. This starts the calibration process. Follow the calibration prompts (these may differ slightly due to the operating system and controller type) and complete your game controller setup.
