Installing a Surround Sound System

    • 1). Set the surround sound receiver near the television and other devices (such as your DVD player or VCR).

    • 2). Place the center channel speaker (this speaker is usually wide and short) on top of the receiver or directly below the television. Take the black and red wires running out of the rear of the speaker and insert them into the "Center" channel on the back of the receiver. Push down on the small locking levers found in the channel port. These levers lock the cables into place.

    • 3). Position the subwoofer nearby on the floor and run the cables into the "Subwoofer" connection port then plug the subwoofer into a local power source. Because the subwoofer uses more power, it requires its own power source.

    • 4). Set the front left and right channel speakers to the left and right of the television (when facing the TV, the right speaker goes on the right). Connect the wires into the front left and right connection ports.

    • 5). Place the back left and right channel speakers to the left and right of where you are sitting (such as the couch). If you have space behind the couch, place the speakers slightly behind the seating area. Connect the cables running out of the speakers into the front left and right connection ports.
