How to Grow Sansevieria in Hydroponics
- 1). Choose an appropriate vessel from the hydroponic cultivation of sansevieria plants. Look for one that has a wide, open mouth and a broad base. Select one that is at least 4 inches deep.
- 2). Take several small pups or root divisions from a healthy sansevieria plant. Cut through the roots and rhizomes that connect the pup with the mother plant using a utility knife. Make sure the pup has roots measuring at least 2 inches in length.
- 3). Rinse the roots of the sansevieria pup thoroughly using cool water. Try to remove as much dirt as possible without damaging or breaking off the roots.
- 4). Fill the bottom of a large, open glass vase or bowl with hydroton pebbles or coarse grade perlite. Make the bottom layer approximately 1.5 to 2 inches deep. Drizzle 1/8 cup of water over the growing medium.
- 5). Hold the sansevieria pup so the roots barely touch the top of the hydroton pebbles or perlite. Spread the roots out over the growing medium.
- 6). Add more pebbles or perlite slowly, until the roots of the sansevieria pup are completely enveloped and the top of the medium is flush with the bottom of the foliage. Drizzle another 1/8 cup water over the medium.
- 7). Place the sansevieria plant near a source of bright, diffused light. Water the plant with 1/8 cup water every two weeks. Change the growing medium once a year to prevent bacterial infections in the roots.
