How to Replace Pool Pump Filters

    • 1). Turn the pool pump off and loosen the clear cap on the water intake to release the pressure inside the filter. Using a hack saw, cut the PVC pipe that is connecting the pump to the filter 1/2 foot away from the pump.

    • 2). Drain the water from the filter, and then pick up the old filter and move it off of the foundation. Place the new filter on the foundation so that the pipe connections are facing the pump.

    • 3). Connect the main pipe from the filter to the pump using PVC pipe and adhesive. Cut the new pipe to lead to the filter from the pump the way that you want. Use the adhesive to permanently connect the pipe.

    • 4). Connect the main backwash PVC pipe to the filter and lead the pipe away from the pool filter and the pump at least 5 feet. Seal the pipe connections using adhesive and allow the adhesive to dry. Fill the filter with sand or insert the filter and repressurize the pool pump.
