How to Raise Stabilizer in Swimming Pools

    • 1). Dip a test strip in the pool water in the deep end to test the level of stabilizer in the pool water. Dip the strip in the water as far down as you can reach. Pull the strip out of the water and compare it to the color chart with the test kit. If the color chart indicates that the stabilizer is low, you need to raise the level right away.

    • 2). Fill the bucket with warm water. Measure out enough cyanuric acid to raise the stabilizer level to a good reading. Raise the cyanuric level 10 ppm by adding 6 1/2 oz. per every 5,000 gallons of water in the pool. Raise the level 20 ppm by adding 12 3/4 oz. or raise the level 30 ppm by adding 11 oz. per every 5,000 gallons of water.

    • 3). Pour the cyanuric acid in the bucket of warm water. Wait 10 to 15 minutes for the powder to dissolve.

    • 4). Turn on the pool pump to filter. Slowly pour the bucket of solution in the pool water starting in the deep end. As you are pouring the solution in the water, walk around the deep end of the pool so the solution is distributed.

    • 5). Run the pool filter for at least six hours to circulate the water. If you performed these steps correctly, you do not need to retest the water unless you are having problems maintaining the good chlorine level.
