How to Remove a Piston From a 12.5 HP Briggs Engine
- 1). Unscrew the oil drain plug at the base of the oil dipstick with the crescent wrench. Allow all the oil to drain into the oil drain pan. Tighten the drain plug back into the hole with the crescent wrench.
- 2). Flip the engine on its top so the crankshaft and oil pan are facing up.
- 3). Remove all the bolts holding the oil pan onto the engine block with the proper sized sockets. Pull the oil pan off of the crankshaft to expose the piston arm and inner engine block.
- 4). Unscrew the two bolts holding the piston arm bearing around the crankshaft with the proper sized sockets.
- 5). Set the engine on its side so the spark plug is facing up. Pull the spark plug cap off. Remove all the bolts holding the combustion chamber head onto the engine block with the proper sized sockets. Pull the head off the engine block to reveal the top of the piston.
- 6). Put your hand inside the engine block and push up on the piston arm to force the piston out of the engine block.
