Make sure you have the right settings.

CONSIDER what savings you can afford to offer. The best way to develop coupon ideas is to look at other company's coupons, and determine why their coupons attract customers. Look at your competitor's coupons, and try to develop coupons that are better than what they have to offer. Decide how many coupons you want to include in your coupon flyer.

    • 2). OPEN UP MICROSOFT PAINT AND FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE PROGRAM. You can use any design program on your computer, but this is a standard program that almost anyone has on their computer. These coupons are not going to be high resolution, but this is OK because you aren't going to be blowing them up any bigger. Click on Image and then Attributes. Make sure that Inches is selected, and set the width to 8.5 and the height by 11 for portrait size coupons or 11 for the width and 8 for the height for landscape coupons.

      Decide your coupon attributes.

DECIDE how big you want your coupons, and where you want to place them on the flyer. The best place for the coupons is on the sides of the paper because people need easy access to cut the coupons. Use the square/rectangle tool, and decide if you want a color fill or not. It will be easier to work with if you don't choose a fill.

Once you make one rectangle, use the cut tool that looks like a square with dotted lines around the outline. Click and pull the box around your rectangle, and then go to edit and hit copy. Next, Hit Paste and drag your rectangle next to the one that you already have. This will make your rectangles equal in size. Just keep hitting paste until you have as many coupons as you need.

INSERT TEXT WITH THE FONT TOOL. You have your coupons where you want them, and now you need to put text inside your coupons. Use the font tool, the capital A button, and drag a square that fits inside your coupon square. Next, hit view and make sure that the text toolbar has a check mark next to it, if it doesn't then click it. You should play around with the fonts and decide what font matches your style. Make sure you have the right size chosen, and it is big enough for people to read.

You will want to make your coupons look as real as possible, so make sure you put terms in a smaller print size at the bottom of your coupons. Copy what most coupons put on the bottom of their coupons, or at least put an expiration date. You might want to include that the coupon is not valid with any other offer, and put a limit on your coupons so someone can't use 3 coupons in one transaction.

ADD PICTURES TO YOUR FLYER to create interest. If you want to place pictures into your coupons, you will want to make sure you follow this step closely. SAVE your file. Next, click open and find your picture that you want to include. Open your file, and then drag the select box, dashed box icon, around the image and then click cut. Next, go to file and the name of your file that you saved should be at the end of the menu, or you may have to hit open, find where you saved it, and then open your file back up. Now hit paste, and resize your image by clicking on any of the corners, there will be a dot on all four corners, and drag the image to the size that you need. Then you can move it to your coupon.

DESIGN YOUR FLYER with alignment and spacing techniques. You will want to put your company's logo or name at the top of the flyer in large print and centered. Make sure you include the address and the phone number of your business. You can decide to put colors into your logo and font, but it will be cheaper to print these flyer coupons if they are just black and white.

A great idea to include in these flyers is to put menu prices onto your flyer. This way when people have your flyer, they can decide what they want for lunch. This works great for businesses who have a hard time keeping up with menus in their offices. You don't have to put your full menu onto the flyer, you may want to just put lunch specials or your most popular items.

If you don't want to include menu prices, make sure that you use any empty space you have on your flyer. Maybe you can put company history or information onto your flyer. Maybe you can make a full sheet of coupons, or you can make your logo and logo name bigger on the flyer.

    • 7). PRINT YOUR FLYERS for distribution. When you are ready to print these flyers, you have two options. The first is to print them yourself. You will need to decide if you want to print them on white paper, glossy paper, or designed paper. When you are ready to print, hit file and then hit page set up. Make sure that it is set to fit on one page, and that the right setting is chosen so that everything prints out on one page. You may want practice paper, just in case it doesn't print out how you want it. Then you can hit file, print and hit how many copies you want to print. The next option is to save the file onto a flash drive or CD and take it into a printing place. They can help you decide what you should print them onto, and how you want the flyers to look.

    • 8). PRACTICE DESIGNING AND EDITING YOUR FLYERS until they look great. The key to making these coupons is to practice. You may want to sketch your coupons out on a piece of paper so you can visually see how they look. Don't get frustrated, and take your time so that there are no spelling or grammar errors. You need to decide where you want to place your flyers. Maybe you can insert them into newspapers, take them to businesses around your business, and have people hand them out on the street, or place them in Doctor Offices. Once you distribute the flyers, be prepared for more customers. Make sure you save your coupons that you receive for tax purposes. I have created several coupon designs for businesses using this program, and they have told me how much they have increased their business!
