How to Restore a Dell System to Original Configuration
- 1). Back up any important files to the external hard drive as the contents of the computer will be erased during the restore. Connect the external hard drive to the computer. Copy and paste any valuable photos, music, documents or programs to the external hard drive. Eject the hard drive and remove any hardware devices connected to the computer.
- 2). Close any programs and shut down the computer. Turn the computer back on and press the "F8" key when the Dell logo appears to open the "Advanced Boot Options Menu."
- 3). Use the down arrow keys to highlight the "Repair Your Computer" option and press "Enter." Select the language settings and click "Next." Login with the administrator account that was created when the computer was first turned on. Click "OK."
- 4). Click "Dell Factory Image Restore" and click the "Next" button in the welcome page. Check the box for "Yes, reformat and restore system software to factory condition." Click the "Next" button to restore the Dell System to the original configuration. Click "Finish" to restart the computer with the new settings and configuration.
