    • 1). Start your Pot Luck cucumbers in midspring when the ground thaws. These are sensitive plants that fail in late frosts. They do best in temperatures between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 2). Put the Pot Luck cucumbers in the established garden, in a spot where they get full sunshine for six to eight hours a day with quick drainage and good air circulation. Set aside a space of 5 square feet for the cucumber plot if you plan to put out multiple plants.

    • 3). Amend the soil in the cucumber plot to a depth of 10 inches. Dig and mix the soil to aerate it, and remove rocks or weeds. Mix 4 to 5 inches of organic compost into the tilled soil for better soil quality. Turn 5-10-10 granular fertilizer into the top 2 to 3 inches of soil to add more nutrition before planting. Follow manufacturer directions in regard to quantity.

    • 4). Plant Pot Luck cucumber seeds 1/2 to 1 inch deep in your amended soil, at every six inches in the row. Leave 12 inches of space between multiple rows to give you room for gardening.

    • 5). Water the cucumbers with 2 inches of water every week, and never let them go dry. Use 2 inches of organic mulch between the rows and plantings to keep weeds down and to keep soil warm and moist. Cucumbers are short-season plants and need consistent, even care to thrive.

    • 6). Feed the cucumbers with 10-5-5 fertilizer after the plants bloom and then again three weeks later to encourage continued fruit production. Follow manufacturer directions in regard to quantity and application, and always water the plants after you feed them.
