How Do I Create a Flower Bouquet?
- 1). Select the flowers and greenery that you wish to use in your floral bouquet. Choose flowers that are the same color, different shades of a particular color family or a variety of colors. Also consider mixing sizes and shapes of blooms. If you are making bouquets for a special occasion such as a wedding, the flowers should complement the color of the dresses that the bride and bridesmaids are wearing.
- 2). Prepare your flowers by trimming the stems and placing them in a vase filled with room temperature water. You can extend the life of your flowers by adding a flower preservative to the water. Allow the flowers to absorb the water for several hours. If you purchase or cut your flowers a day in advance, place them into the water solution immediately and allow them to rehydrate overnight.
- 3). Arrange your flower bouquet. Start by holding the flower that you wish to have at center of the bouquet and adding flowers around it until the bouquet has reached its intended or ideal size. The ideal size of the bouquet is a matter of personal preference; however, the stems should fit comfortably in your hands. Add greenery to the bouquet last.
- 4). Secure the stems of the bouquet into place. Starting near the top of the stems, wrap floral wire loosely around the stems of your flowers to add support and hold them in place. Next, wrap green floral tape around the stems starting from the top and working down until the stems are completely covered.
- 5). Finish your bouquet by covering the floral tape with coordinating ribbon. To attach the ribbon, place a small dot of hot glue on the floral tape near the top of the stems. Wrap the ribbon around the stems until the floral tape is completely covered. Once you have worked your way to the bottom of the stems, trim off excess ribbon and attach the loose end of the ribbon to the stem with another dot of hot glue.
