Single-wall ovens fit into a kitchen wall. They're generally easier to use than traditional range-and-oven combination appliances, since single-wall ovens are positioned at chest level, which reduces the need to bend over. Conventional range-and-oven combination appliances position ovens at the bottom, which requires you to stoop to operate. The downside to single-wall ovens, however, is that they take up wall space that might otherwise be used for cabinets.

Basic single-wall oven dimensions are frequently listed as height, width and depth. The height refers to the distance from the oven's top to bottom. The width refers to the overall measurement from the appliance's right to left side. The depth is generally the amount of space from the oven's front exterior surface to its back exterior wall. Separate from these measurements is another dimension known as cabinet width or recessed width. It's the amount of cooking space available inside the oven and is typically featured as a separate measurement from the three other basic dimensions.

Single-wall ovens can run that gamut when it comes to height, width and depth. Heights range from about 19 inches to as tall as 30 inches. Widths are approximately 4 inches wider than cabinet widths to allow at least 2 inches of space on each oven side for the exterior encasing. Single-wall oven depths generally range from 21 1/2 inches to more than 23 inches, depending on the model you choose.

Cabinet widths are fairly standard from manufacturer to manufacturer, although they can vary by model. Consumer Reports states that most single-wall ovens have cabinet widths of 24, 27 or 30 inches compared to range and oven combination appliances with widths of 30 or 36 inches for electric and gas models, respectively. Larger cabinet widths of 27 and 30 provide ample space for preparing large roasts, whereas 24-inch width cabinets are better for smaller kitchens and cooks who do less entertaining. The oven space might be too narrow to accommodate large roasting pans.
