    Laptop Connection

    • Bent or broken pins on the plug on the end of the cord from the AC adapter can cause a bad connection. Dirt or corrosion on the pins or inside the receptacle on the laptop itself can also cause it. If moving the connector causes the light that indicates a connection to external power to flicker or turn off, replace the connector at the end of the cord. If the socket itself causes the problem, take the satellite to a repair shop. Don't try to open a laptop yourself to repair it. You could cause further damage.

    Cut or Broken Cord

    • The permanently attached cord on AC power adapter could be cut, broken or squashed causing an open circuit that will not pass the power or a short circuit that will not allow the voltage to reach the laptop. You may be able to repair the cord or splice it to bypass the defective section. Be sure to match colors. Crossing wires may cause further damage. If the damage is too close to the adapter itself, take it to a shop for repairs or replace it with a new or refurbished one.

    AC Cord

    • The AC cord for a Toshiba Satellite fits into the power adapter which has three prongs to make the connection. Broken, bent or corroded prongs on the adapter or the AC power cord, or worn receptacles inside the cord may also cause a bad connection. The AC cord itself may have open wires inside caused by excessive wear or corrosion. You can usually find replacement cords at any computer or electronics supply shop.

    Bad AC Receptacle

    • Just because you plug a cord into a wall socket doesn't mean there is electricity. Ensure the socket has power by plugging in a smaller appliance such as a lamp. if it doesn't work, you may have a faulty socket, a tripped circuit breaker, faulty house wiring or a power outage. Don't attempt to repair the Toshiba Satellite AC adapter or power plug until you're sure the AC socket has power. If necessary, call an electrician.
