    If Your Battery Has a Reset Button

    • 1). While using your laptop, allow the battery to run down completely. Save your work to the hard drive or a memory stick so that it doesn't get lost once the computer dies.

    • 2). Plug it in. Allow it to charge for approximately one hour without turning the computer on.

    • 3). Hold the Power On button on the computer and the reset button down simultaneously.
      The reset button can be held down with the tip of a pen or a straightened paper clip. Lights will go on and then off.

    • 4). Let go of the buttons, and turn your computer on.

    • 5). Allow the battery to charge up all the way.

    If Your Battery Doesn't Have a Reset Button

    • 1). Use the computer and let the battery run down completely.

    • 2). Plug the computer in, and let the battery fully recharge without turning the computer on.

    • 3). If steps 1 and 2 of this section do not work, you can download power-manager software designed for resetting a laptop battery. It's important to follow the instructions exactly, as the software is meant to be used by professionals.
