How to Fire Clay in a Stove Top Oven
- 1). Create the clay piece you will be firing using the polymer clay.
- 2). Place a baking sheet on a flat surface and line the sheet with a layer of baker's parchment. The parchment will protect the part of the clay lying in direct contact with the baking sheet from developing a shiny spot from the heated sheet's surface.
- 3). Turn on the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit and preheat it for 15 minutes to achieve an even temperature.
- 4). Place the baking sheet on a rack in the center of the oven. Allow the clay to harden. The time it takes depends on the thickness of the clay. For a ¼-inch piece, allow the clay 20 minutes to harden. Thicker pieces will need up to an hour.
- 5). Remove the clay from the oven once it's hardened and set it on a flat surface to cool.
