How to Make a Tulle Tutu for a Baby
- 1). Measure the circumference of the waist of the baby who will be wearing the tutu. Add 1 inch to this measurement for seam allowances and to aid in simple removal of the garment. Cut the elastic to length and sew the ends together, forming a loop.
- 2). Lay the tulle on the measuring board and cut into rectangular strips. Each strip should measure 6 by 20 inches. Slip the elastic loop over the top of the clothes hanger to hold in place while working.
- 3). Align two strips of tulle and fold the pieces in half. Knot the fabric around the elastic by slipping the ends through the loop formed by the fold of the tulle. Pull the tulle taught, and repeat until the elastic band is filled with tulle strips.
- 4). Shake the tutu gently, to separate the pieces of tulle and create a fuller visual effect. Repeat before each time the craft is worn. To alter the appearance of the final product, include pieces of multi-colored ribbon among the strips of tulle.
