    • 1). Stack together as much paper as you want to use in your notebook, separating the paper into stacks of 10 sheets. Place two pieces of thin cardboard (matching the paper size) on top of each other for the notebook covers.

    • 2). Slide the left edge of each stack into a 30 hole punch. Bear down on the punch to puncture through each stack of 10 sheets.

    • 3). Stack the sheets on top of each other, lining up the holes. Sandwich the sheets between the cardboard covers. Clip the notebook together with binder clips along the right side, top and bottom.

    • 4). Measure the thickness of your notebook with a ruler. Nip a piece of wire 30 times as long as the thickness measurement. For instance, if your notebook is 1/2-inch thick, you need 15 inches of wire.

    • 5). Wrap the wire 30 times around a dowel rod with the same thickness as your notebook. In this case, wrap the wire around a 1/2-inch diameter rod.

    • 6). Slide the wire spiral off of the dowel rod and stretch it out gently. Feed the top end of the wire through the bottom hole in your notebook and begin twisting the wire. It should thread through the holes, stretching from the bottom to the top of the notebook's spine.
