Directions for an HTH Pool Test
- 1). Rinse each cell of the test kit with water. Fill each cell of the 6-way test kit with water from the pool or spa. For optimal results, obtain the water from 18 inches below the surface.
- 2). Add 5 drops of the OTO reagent to the cell labeled "CL/Br." Place the cap on the cell and turn over the test container to mix the chemical and water. Compare the water color with the sanitizer standard chart and write down the results as ppm (parts per million) of total bromine or chlorine.
- 3). Add 5 drops of the Phenol Red, replace the lid on the cell and turn the container to mix the contents. Compare the color of the water with the pH standard chart and write down the results as pH.
- 4). Fill the provided sample tube up to the 25 ml mark, using water from the pool or spa. Add 5 drops of the Alkalinity Indicator reagent. Swirl the container around to mix the liquids. Add Alkalinity Titrant to the container 1 drop at a time until the water color changes from green to red. Multiply the number of drops applied to the liquid by 10 and write down the result in ppm for total alkalinity.
- 5). Fill the sample tube to the 25 ml mark, using water from the pool or spa. Add 5 drops of the Hardness Indicator reagent. Swirl the liquids to mix them. Add the Hardness Titrant reagent to the mix 1 drop at a time. Swirl the container after each drop and add drops until the mixture turns from red to blue. Multiply the number of applied drops by 10 and write down the results as ppm of total hardness.
- 6). Fill the CYA bottle up to the 7 ml mark, using water from the pool or spa. Add Cyanuric Acid reagent to the container until the mixture reaches the 14 ml mark. Place the lid on the container and mix for 30 seconds. Pour the solution from the dispensing bottle to the CYA view tube until the black dot located on the bottom of the tube dissappears from view when seen from above. Read the results and write them down as ppm for stabilizer.
