How to Add a Hard Drive to My HP Vectra Vl420
- 1). Turn off your computer and remove the power cord from the back. Remove the retaining screw from the back of the computer case.
- 2). Pull the case release lever and remove the cover from the computer. Set the computer case aside.
- 3). Place a grounding strap on your wrist and attach the clip to the computer's case. This will prevent a buildup of static electricity that could damage the electrical components inside the computer. Grounding straps can be purchased at many computer stores and electronics retailers.
- 4). Locate an empty drive bay and slide the new hard drive into place. Secure the drive with screws so that it does not move around.
- 5). Connect the cable from the back of the hard drive to the computer's motherboard. The connectors on the motherboard should be marked--just look for the secondary hard drive connector.
- 6). Press down gently but firmly until the hard drive cable is fully seated. Make sure the cable is fully seated on both the hard drive and the motherboard.
