My iMac Runs Very Slow
- 1). Free up space on your hard drive. Your iMac needs space to continue running efficiently, and slows down when the hard disk is close to maximum capacity. Once files are deleted, empty the Recycle Bin to permanently delete the files and free up disk space.
- 2). Adjust your power settings. Navigate to the Energy Saver preferences by clicking "Apple" on the desktop's menu and "System Preferences." Click "Energy Saver" and click the "Options" button. Click the Processor Performance's drop-down menu, and click "Highest."
- 3). Reboot your computer. A computer that is always powered on without an occasional shutdown or restart will slow down in performance, since the computer's fans are constantly active to keep the computer's internal system cool. Click the "Apple" menu icon on the desktop and click "Shut Down" to give your computer a break from running, or click "Restart" from the Apple menu to clear out the computer's memory.
- 4). Close unnecessary applications. Unnecessary applications are memory drainers, and slow down the computer's ability to evenly distribute power. If your computer frequently displays the multi-colored spinning wheel, it is working harder than it should to juggle between open applications.
