    Black Spot

    • Small roses are susceptible to black spot, which is caused by the fungus Diplocarpon rosae. This fungus creates black spots with feathery edges on the top of the leaves. To prevent black spot, water your roses in the morning and make sure the water does not stay on the leaves for more than seven hours.

    Pests

    • Pests such as spider mites and aphids infest miniature rose bushes during hot, dry weather. Spray the small rose bush with a mixture of 1 tbsp. of liquid dish soap and 1 qt. water. Cover the leaves, stems and branch joints with the mixture. Rinse the insects off the rose bush with a forceful spray of water.

    Drainage

    • Gardeners often grow small roses in containers because of their size. Check the container for drainage holes. Miniature roses require good drainage, or the roots will drown. If the bottom of the container is covered with foil, remove it while watering the rose bush to let the water drain out the bottom.
