    Decals

    • Pinstripe decals can be purchased at auto shops or on decal specialty websites. Decal pinstriping designs are quick to apply and can also be removed. This is the advantage over paint applied pinstripes. Pinstriping decal designs are available in several colors to compliment your vehicle's paint. Apply the decals over a freshly cleaned surface to maximize the adhesion. A small squeegee is used to rub out any air bubbles to ensure a smooth finish.

    Freehand

    • Freehand pinstriping is done using an airbrush or a small hand brush. Masking tape is applied to act as a guide for airbrushing your own pinstripes. The masking tape serves as a guard to prevent airbrush over spray from getting on the surface. No tape guides are needed if you choose to hand paint your pinstripes. A steady hand is needed for this technique. Freehand pinstriping allows you to be creative with your work. Dainty, intricate designs can be done using the freehand technique.

    Pinstriping Tape

    • Pinstriping tape is available in auto stores and is used to create flame edges or thin pinstripe lines. Pinstripe tape is an extremely narrow tape used to create straight or wavy lines without the tape bubbling up. This ensures a crisp straight edge to your pinstripe lines. The pinstriping tape is similar to using a stencil and can be shaped to fit any design for painting fine lines.

    Mechanical

    • Mechanical pinstriping is done in auto body shops with special machines. This is a good choice if you want large areas of straight pinstripes done, such as along the entire body of your vehicle. The machines used for this technique are excellent at keeping your pinstripe lines consistent in thickness.
