How to Grow Dwarf Pak Choi

    • 1). Sow dwarf pak choi seeds directly into the garden after the last winter frosts. Choose a site with fertile, well-drained soil and as much exposure to sunshine as possible. Sow seeds no deeper than 1/2 inch, leaving three inches between seeds and 12 inches between rows. Thin out the seedlings once they appear, leaving eight inches between plants.

    • 2). Fertilize your dwarf pak choi with a balanced fertilizer, at the manufacturer's recommended dose, four weeks after the seedlings appear. Water when the surface of the soil starts to dry out, aiming to soak the soil to a depth of 6 inches. Remove all weeds as they appear.

    • 3). Monitor your plants for signs of insect pests such as cabbage worms and flea beetles. Pick off large insects by hand or spray your pak choi with an insecticidal product containing the bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis.

    • 4). Harvest the outer leaves from large heads after about 30 to 40 days or when they are large enough to handle. Harvest the whole heads as soon as the first plants start to send up flower stalks as flowering plants get tough.

    • 5). Sow a second crop of dwarf pak choi in middle to late summer at least 40 days before the date of the first frost.
