How to Disable the WiFi on a Laptop Computer
- 1). Look for a physical on/off switch. This may be located on the front, back or side edges of your laptop or on the face near the power switch. Wireless switches are denoted by the standard wireless icon, which is an image of an antenna with semi-circular lines radiating outward from the top. Press or slide the switch to the "Off" position.
- 2). Look for a key with the wireless symbol if you are unable to locate a physical switch. Toshiba computers generally use the "F8" key, while Dell computers often use "F2." Press "Fn" and the indicated wireless hotkey at the same time. This will either toggle the wireless on and off or launch a wireless settings window from which you can disable the Wi-Fi, depending on your model.
- 3). Check your wireless indicator light, if one is included in your model. If the Wi-Fi is disabled, the light will turn off. On some models it may take a few seconds to respond.
