Choose a planting container. The pot can be made of any material, including wood, galvanized metal or clay, but should include drainage holes to prevent overwatering. The size of the container you select will affect how large the tree will grow. Select a container that can be moved indoors with ease. - 3). Fill the bottom of the pot with potting soil. Leave adequate room for the tree's root system.
- 4). Place the tree in the pot. Spread out the roots, taking care not to break or damage them. Cover the roots with potting soil. Leave 2 inches of space between the potting soil and the top of the pot. Pack the soil tightly to avoid any air around the roots.
- 5). Water the tree thoroughly until water drains out of the bottom of the pot.
- 6). Place the tree in a sunny window or outdoors if the weather is warm. Water thoroughly each time the top 2 inches of soil becomes dry.
