    • 1). Fill the pot with a well-draining potting soil mixture for houseplants. Insert the sprouted avocado seed into the soil, roots down. Leave 1 inch of the pointed tip of the seed above the soil.

    • 2). Water the plant to keep it evenly moist but not soggy. If the plant is too wet, it will develop soft, rotting roots. If it is dry, the leaves will turn yellow or brown. Keep the plant in an area where it receives eight to 10 hours of indirect sunlight daily.

    • 3). Fertilize the avocado tree every three months with a balanced fertilizer for houseplants, according to the package directions.
